After a two year break the Rebel Óg awards have returned for 2022.
The pandemic meant the awards were put on hold, with the last monthly award presented in December 2019 until yesterday.
The awards acknowledge all areas of GAA activities for underage clubs, teams, or individuals across Cork, including hurling, football, camogie, ladies football, and Scor, with an independent judging panel deciding on the monthly winner.
On welcoming the return of the awards Michael O’Mahony, chairman of Rebel Óg said: “We are delighted that the awards have returned for this year as it gives us to honour clubs, teams, and others for their special achievements.
“We would like to thank the Clayton Hotel, Silversprings, the main sponsor of the awards as well as Cummins Sports, award sponsors. Also to The Echo and RedFM for their continued media partnership of the awards. I would also like to thank Mick Evans who has stayed on as chairman of the judging panel.
“On behalf of Rebel Óg, I am also delighted to announce that former Cork footballers Ciarán Sheehan and Brid Stack have agreed to come on board as judges for the coming year and I wish them well as they will have some tough decisions to make in the coming months.
“Finally, I would like to thank all the judges over the past 10 years for all the work in making these awards the event they have become.”
Yesterday the winners for March and April were honoured with St Francis College, Rochestown, and the Cork minor camogie team picking up their awards.
Both were picked for their success in All-Ireland competitions, with the camogie side winning both the All-Ireland minor title and the Munster championship, whilst Rochestown won the Paddy Buggy Cup, the All-Ireland B championship for senior school sides.
Cork claimed their third All-Ireland minor camogie title in five years when they beat Galway by 2-11 to 2-7 at Semple Stadium. Orla Cahalane and Ciara Morrison were the main scorers, with both hitting 1-3 over the hour.
To win their All-Ireland title Rochestown hit the final nine points without reply against Claregalway to win by 0-17 to 0-9.

Rebel Og Championship Draws 2022
Draws for Rebel Og championships for Premier, East, North, West, Mid-South
youtu.be
The draw will be broadcast from Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Thursday at 8pm.
All eyes will be on the Rebel Óg minor and U15 championship draws next Thursday night, June 2, starting from 8pm.
This year the draws will be live-streamed to give players, mentors, clubs, and parents the chance to see the draws as they are happening.
All draws from around the county will be taking place, which includes the Premier and the regional draws – West, Mid-South, East, and North Regions.
Rebel Óg felt that by live-streaming the draws from Páirc Ui Chaoimh it gave everyone the opportunity to view them, especially those further away from the city who may have found it difficult to attend on the night. The draws will be done region by region and a downloadable PDF of all draws will be on the website along with a link to tune in on the night.
Michael O’Mahony, chairman of Rebel Óg said: “We are delighted to be live streaming the draws this year and hopefully it will give more people the opportunity to see them. It’s a new departure for Rebel Óg and as we move more and more into an online world we want to use the technology available to us to bring the draws to people not alone in Cork but possibly further afield.
“I would like to thank all those who have helped to organise this event, especially officers of Rebel Óg across the county who have put in a lot of work in the background to make this possible. Also thanks to Cian O’Brien, Patrick Mulcahy, and the senior board for their help.”
Further details for the link and the actual running order of the draws will be sent out in advance of the night to clubs and will also be here on the website.
This week will see the playing of two more finals for the Rebel Óg Mid/South region for 2022.
Wednesday the 25th of May will see Passage doing battle against Whitechurch in the Fé 17 Division 2 Football League Cup Final. This game will throw-in at 7pm and will be held in Grenagh. Moreover, this has the feel of a cracker to it, if I may say so myself.
And last but by no means least, Saturday the 28th of May will see Blarney and Charleville do battle in the Fé 17 Division 1 Hurling League Cup Final. Ballyhea was selected as venue for this game and it is set to commence at 2pm, meaning there are no excuses for both sets of supporters to make time for this game and the Champions League Final, this coming Saturday! Blarney won the league game a couple of weeks ago between the two sides by the narrowest of margins, so it promises to be another crowd-pleaser.
On behalf of Rebel Óg Mid/South, I would like to wish all teams involved the very best of luck and would like to thank the selected match officials and host clubs for their time and cooperation.
Luke Knight- PRO Rebel Óg Mid/South.
This coming Friday, the 6th of May 2022, will see the commencement of the first football final games for the Rebel Óg Mid/South region for 2022.
St Vincents will do battle against Ballygarvan in the Fé 17 Divison 3 Football League Cup Final, while Castlelyons will face tough opposition in the form of Tracton in the Fé 17 Division 3 Football League Shield Final. The former will take place in Kerrypike at 7pm, while the latter will be held in the St Vincents GAA Club at 7pm also.
On behalf of Rebel Óg Mid/South, I would like to wish all teams (players and management), the selected match officials and both host clubs the very best of luck on Friday night and as a board, we thank you for your time and cooperation.
Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir, Luke Knight- PRO Rebel Óg Mid/South.

REBEL ÓG Coaching has announced details of their club football skills development programme which will see more than 5,000 boys between the ages of 12 and 14 showcase their skills in a county-wide competition involving 150 clubs.
Club coaches are invited to host a kicking skills competition in their local clubs with the three highest-scoring players advancing to the divisional finals, with the winners contesting the county finals at Páirc Ui Chaoimh in May.
The initiative is being generously sponsored by Co-Op Superstores.
Speaking at the launch, Liam O’Flaherty head of Agribusiness Dairygold said: “Through our retail division, Co-Op Superstores is hugely connected with the GAA community in parishes across Cork.
“We are looking forward to being involved with Rebel Óg Coaching for another great competition this year.
“People development is one of Dairygold’s core values and we are delighted to extend the opportunity to young aspiring footballers in Cork to develop their skill set. We wish all participants the very best of luck.”
Cork football development manager Conor Counihan added: “This initiative will help focus on the development of the basic skills of kicking with the left and right foot, while also providing a focus for players who may not have had reason to practice these skills offseason.”
He is excited to work once again with Co-Op Superstores as sponsors and while the competition was hit by Covid, it will once again become an exciting annual event in the calendar.
“Clubs across the county are asked to hold their own internal competitions at U12, U13, and U14 and have their club representatives nominated for the divisional finals being held on May 14. The county finals will be held on the weekend of May 21 at Páirc Ui Chaoimh.
“Each club will be asked to nominate three players from each age group to represent their club, it is a team event with the combined scores of each team member being counted.”
