Message from Rebel Óg regarding U17 championships:

A chara,

As we have now received dates for the inter-county minor programme for 2021, Rebel Óg have met with the Cork minor managers and representatives of the Cork senior board.

Arising from this meeting and due to the congested nature of the minor inter-county fixture programme in July, it is necessary to move the commencement of the U17 championship to June, as follows:

U17 football championship round 1 will be played on June 23, instead of the scheduled U18 hurling preseason game.

Likewise, the first round of the U17 hurling championship will be played on June 30, instead of the scheduled U18 football preseason game.

Round two of the U17 hurling championship will be played on July 7, with the following exception – fixtures in this round involving members of the Cork minor hurling panel will be played on the weekend of July 3rd/4th.

Round two of the U17 football championship will be played in and around the weekend of July 30 to August 1.

Further details of the games programme at U18 will follow in the next few days.

Please note that Go Games (U7-U11) will start on Saturday,  June 12. Please see attached dates for matches at end of message.
All Games will be fixed for Saturday mornings.
U7s at 10am.
U8s and U9s at 11am.
U10s and U11s at 12.15pm.
Mentors may choose to move Games if needed a small bit. But our advice is to stick to the schedule. Let parents know the times and dates at the start and stick to it.
Equipment is as follows:
U7 First Touch Football and Quick/First Touch sliotar.
U8 First Touch football and Quick Touch sliotar.
U9 Quick Touch football and Quick Touch Sliotar.
U10 Quick Touch Football and Quick Touch Sliotar.
U11 Smart Touch Football and Smart Touch Sliotar.
Pitch and team sizes as follows:
U7 is 5 a-side on a 35 x 25m pitch.
U8 is 7 a-side on a 45 x 30m pitch.
U9 is 7 a-side on a 55 x 30m pitch.
U10 is 9 a-side on a 65 x 40m pitch.
U11 is 9 a-side on a 70 x 40m pitch.
Referees:
Host club are responsible for providing referees for each match. We recommend that each referee gets €10 from each team taking part. So, if there are 3 Team X vs 3 Team Y, we will need 3 referees. At the first game, each team pays the referee €10 each,  so the 3 referees in this situation get €20 each for the morning matches. If clubs have a separate arrangement for home referees, that is up to them. But every visiting team has to pay €10 per referee. An online Young Whistlers Course will be provided by our County Referees Group in advance of the first round of games. Exact date and time will be confirmed asap.
6.) Fixtures and opposition for the first set of matches will be distributed in the coming days as they are just being finalised. The schedule will primarily be based on geography and limiting travel as much as possible.

A chara,

The Rebel Óg fixtures for June 2021 are now live on the website. The Championship fixtures will follow shortly.

The Preseason Games for Fé18 & Fé15

Two preseason games in both codes from the 7th of June have been organised to facilitate the return to play of all players many of whom have not played since last summer. This was initiated on the request of clubs to give teams a chance to see who is available to play and to build up a level of match fitness before competitive games start this year.

Due to Covid and the inevitable time constraints that follow at Fé18 & Fé15 it may not be possible to play a league competition. It is hoped that clubs will use these games to get players back playing and to prepare for Championship We are asking mentors not to put pressure on the leaving cert students to play in these games.

Fé13 and Fé12 competitions

This year the Fé13 & Fé12 competitions will be played in 2 phases, with the first phase beginning the week of the 7th of June starting with hurling then football every other week. Each team will have 3 games in each code.

When the teams have played their 3 games in each code the CCC will look at the groups and divide into larger groups for the rest of the year. There will be finals in phase 2, with cup and shield trophies at the end of the season.

Fé16 & Fé14

Fé16 and Fé14 league competitions will begin on the 7th of June.

Fé15 C3 league.

Rebel Óg will be running this competition in 2 phases with each team having 3 games in each code in phase 1. The CCC will then look at the groups for phase 2 which will run to the end of the season.

2021 groups

With underage GAA activity now just days away, Cork GAA are reaching out to coaches, child/youth players and their parents to provide practical advice on supporting players return to their local GAA clubs. The webinar will focus on personal development and adopting a positive outlook in life and sport.
The webinar will be held on Friday, April  23, from 8-8.45pm.
“Importance of Return to Sport – Fitter Body, Fitter Mind”
Our first guest speaker at the event will be Cork U20 football manager, Keith Ricken, pictured above. Keith is working as a GAA Development Officer in C.I.T. for the last 20 years. He has huge experience as a club coach most notably with his own club St Vincents and has coached hurling and football at all levels. Keith is also recognised by many for the assistance he gives to players off the field and will be sharing some of this advice to players and parents in this webinar. Keith will also provide practical tips around personal development.
Our second speaker is Barry Corkery who worked with the Cork Minor Football All Ireland winning team of 2019 and is currently a Cork U20 Football selector. Barry is a member of the Eire Og club and is a mental health therapist by profession. Barry will offer practical tips around having a positive mindset and having clear goals in life and sport.
We would ask clubs to pass this information on to all club coaches and parents and actively encourage them to join this short but very informative webinar.
To register for the event, please complete the below form
All clubs, players, mentors and those involved in organising games are delighted to see players return to pod training on April 26.
It is great to be taking the first step on the road back to normal GAA activities, which hopefully we will see in the near future.
We have been receiving a lot of emails with questions about return to play from clubs regarding leagues and championships. Rebel Óg are working hard behind the scenes to formulate a “return to play plan” with several options being put in place, depending on what announcements and level of activity the Government and Croke Park will allow.
We, like you, are waiting on confirmation of return to play dates, protocols, regulations etc from the Government and GAA. Once that has been confirmed we will be contacting all clubs with plans going forward.
This will include information on the following
When competitions, leagues, full training etc can start and what competition, league, training format we will return to play at?
The yearly calendar/program timetable of games.
Rules and Regulations regarding same.
In the meantime, we ask that club secretaries in preparation for the return to play, please log onto your online secretary’s portal and update all the contact information etc there, and to follow the guidelines for garda vetting, child welfare and coaching courses before we return to the field of play.
One decision has has been made are the days when games will take place to help clubs start to put their own plans in place. These will run across all regions.
The days for the age groups for the 2021 season are as follows:
Monday: U15 C3 and U12
Tuesday: U13 C3
Wednesday: U17/18  and U14
Thursday: U13 in West and North Regions
Friday: U13 in East, Mid and Choiste (old central) Regions
Saturday: U15 and U16
Sunday: U15 second teams and U17 C3 teams
We must remind clubs that our “return to play” will be based on the guidelines and rules as laid out by the Government, Croke Park and Cork County Board.

We are not there yet, but we are close and hopefully it won’t be long before conversations will be around games and full training sessions.

In the meantime stay safe and please ensure that all protocols are strictly adhered to when pod training returns on April 26.
