ALL-IRELAND Scór na nÓg winners, Maggie Moynihan (Cullen) and Carbery Rangers are the February winners of the Rebel Óg monthly awards, sponsored by the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs, Cummins Sports (award sponsors) with the Evening Echo and RedFM as media partners

– by Rory Noonan of Evening Echo.

Maggie is just 15 years old and started performing in public at the age of four when she entered the Feis in Cullen. She entered the amhránaíocht aonair in scór for the first time when she was nine.

Maggie reached the Munster final last year, but this year she reached the next step of the journey when she qualified for the All-Ireland final in Sligo, where she was chosen as the outright winner in Sligo on the night. She sang Cooraclare, which is a song which means a lot to her family and is always the first song to be sung at family parties. The last time an Ireland Scór title was brought to Cullen was 45 years ago by the late Con ‘Corney’ O’Sullivan. He won the All-Ireland title in Ceol Uirlse back in 1972 in Scór Sinsir.

Meanwhile, there was an unbelievable reaction when Carbery Rangers name was called out for winning the 2018 All-Ireland final in the Balled Group Section.

The Carbery group sang two songs – Lovely Derry on the Banks of the Foyle and Moll Dubh a’Ghleanna. It was the first All-Ireland winning Scór title for Carbery Rangers since Scór was first established in 1969.

The group of five made up of Aoife McSweeney, Joan O’Donovan, Kate Creedon, Orlagh O’Gorman and Rachel Hodnett have participated in Scór since the ages of seven or eight at County and Munster levels.

Due to the extreme weather conditions that are currently prevailing all Minor League games scheduled for the coming weekend have been postponed.
The entire round will be refixed for Monday March 19th.

  • Any views expressed by the Delegates present at the meetings will supercede other correspondence from the Clubs. NB. no changes to ratified fixtures even if there is an agreement. Fixtures sent out before the meeting are proposed fixtures only, any agreed fixtures to be sent to the Secretary at least 24 hours before the meeting.
  • All Teams participating in B2 competitions must send me a copy of their panel of 18 before they play their second game. There will be severe penalties for any clubs playing players not on the panel sent into me. Any club who hasn’t sent their panels to me on time will have each game forfeited until I get it.
  • A fair play rule is in operation in all league North Cork fixtures but does not include semi-finals, finals or any Championship game. All Clubs are expected to follow this policy.
  • Fines for any game conceded is €50 payable by the following meeting.
  • Any club owing money from last year please pay at this meeting.
  • Referees; There is a shortage in referees this year. Every club is being asked to provide a referee. The fee for refereeing a match has being risen to €40 per game which makes it well worth doing. The fee per match per club for the referee’s is €20 and €25 per club who do not provide a referee.
  • Referee; We are looking for people with a good Knowledge of our games and are a minimum age of 17. Full training will be provided and a Jersey will be provided. Please forward all names to me so I can organise the training.
  • Due to the number of squad days all league games will have to go ahead without squad players if they

The Rebel Óg Coaching Benchmarking 2020 Vision winners have been announced.

Winners are divided in to 3 categories with the top clubs receiving the “Gold” accolade and the silver and bronze being awarded based on criteria set out at the start of each year.

The criteria is designed to point clubs in the direction of coaching and games best practice to help them improve playing standards and increase participation at player and mentor level.

Games Manager, Kevin O Callaghan says “it shows the great work going on in our clubs throughout the county and all our club Coaching Officers deserve huge credit for the effort they put in to steering their clubs to achieve accreditation. Our GDA’s also deserve immense credit for the work they do in supporting the clubs and  Coaching Officers throughout the county. I would like to congratulate all clubs on their accreditation and would encourage clubs to strive towards achieving the Gold standard by 2020 or before it.”
