There was a very strong turnout for the information night held in Eire Óg GAA Club in Ovens.
Kevin O’Callaghan & Ronan Dwane kicked off proceedings and discussed a number of different topics around clubs availing of the coaching service from the County Board? Were they utilizing the services of the GDA for their schools and clubs, coaching workshops were a few of the items discussed
Des Cullinane Child Welfare Officer of the Co. Board was up next. He discussed the responsibility of Clubs and Club officers to be compliant in the protection of our underage members, with a philosophy that recognises the welfare of the child is paramount .It is the responsibility of the club to have all personnel involved with their underage members be Garda Vetted and have received relevant child welfare and sports related training, to enable them fulfil such roles
.
Brian Coniry of the South East Referees gave a very frank and honest talk about refereeing with particular emphasis around Give Respect Get Respect and received a round of applause. A Q&A was held afterwards with a lot of questions from the floor.
To finish off the evening Chairman Coiste Na nÓg John Purcell thanked everyone in attendance and spoke a few words about upcoming Féile and where to get information for clubs and their host families.
The large number of those in attendance availed of the Teas, coffees and lovely refreshments afterwards and spoke with the guest speakers. Overall a very informative night.

Mid-South Board
A meeting of the West region will take place on tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6, at the GAA pavilion, Dunmanway, at 8pm.
All clubs are requested to send a delegate to this meeting.
A meeting of the East Region will take place on Monday, March 4, at 7.30pm at Midleton GAA Club.
All clubs are asked to have representation at the meeting.
MIDLETON CBS, winners of the Dr Harty Cup, are the February winners of the Rebel Óg Monthly awards sponsored by the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs and Cummins Sports, (award sponsors), in association with the Evening Echo and Red FM, media partners.
The 2019 Harty Cup final is notable from a number of perspectives. Midleton CBS traditionally harnesses and nurture the hurling talent of pupils coming from just nine Juvenile GAA Clubs within the school’s East Cork hinterland.
The school prides itself on nurturing “home-grown” East Cork talent through the various age groups in schools competitions in Cork and Munster. No CBS Harty Cup-winning player to date has come from a club outside of this tightly knit East Cork hurling community.
Having recorded a draw with De La Salle and a win over St Flannans at the group stages, the team reached the final following victories over Our Lady’s Templemore and De La Salle College Waterford at their second meeting of the campaign.
In this year’s final Midleton CBS faced a school they had never encountered before in the Harty Cup competition. The paring was novel in that both teams were from Cork and had representatives from the Midleton Club in both of their ranks. CBC Cork were bridging a gap of 101 years since they contested the first ever Harty Cup Final in 1918 when they were defeated by Rockwell College.
Following a heroic tussle which saw the sides draw level on eight occasions during the course of the game, a goal for Midleton in the 53rd minute proved to be the defining score which put sufficient daylight between the teams and propelled the East Cork school to victory at the final whistle. Dylan Hogan from the Killeagh was presented with the cup and the East Cork boys were crowned Munster Champions for the fourth time in the history of the school.

The County Féile na nÓg (U14 football) will be run off to the following schedule;
- Group Stages of all competitions; Saturday 6th April
- Premier Competition semi-finals and final; Sunday 7th April
- Semi-finals and finals of the “A” and “B” competitions; Monday 22nd April.
- Entries for Féile na nÓg ( U14 Football) to be submitted not later than Friday 15th March
- The entry fee for playing in Féile is €180 with €150 refundable once your club plays in the competition. Please submit as indicated on the entry form.
- There is no County Féile in hurling this year as all interested teams can play in the National Féile, hosted by Cork, over the weekend 7th-9th June. Teams that have entered for the hurling will receive a separate notification.
PLAYING RULES FOR FÉILE NA nÓG (U14 Football)
Normal Playing Rules to apply.
Panel of 24 to be submitted to referee at the commencement of the competition. Clubs may not alter this panel at any stage during the Group stages. Unlimited substitutions to apply from the 24 listed.
All Group Games to be 15 minutes aside. (Except where outlined where they will be 12 minutes a side).
Premier U14 teams play in Premier Grade, Division 1 teams play in the “A” grade while teams playing Division 2 or lower play in the “B” grade.
Teams in Premier and ‘A’’ are 15 a side. Teams in ‘B’ are 13 a side. However, the teams that qualify from the “B” grade will have to play 15 a side in the National Competition run over the weekend 28th-30th June.
Clubs are requested to check with opponents in advance of the competition, should a clash of Colours occur. In accordance with TO Cumann Luth Chleas Gael, both clubs change, unless by agreement
At the conclusion of Group Stages:
In the event of teams finishing level on points, the team with the lowest overall score conceded will be determined the Group winner.
In the event of teams having identical scores conceded, then the side that scored the most overall points will qualify. In the event of scores still being deadlocked, the winner will be determined by the result of the game between the teams.
Arrangements for Group Finals (where applicable) to be listed with Fixtures. Games in these Final will be 15 minutes a side.
In the event of game(s) ending in a draw, extra time of 5 minutes a side will be played.
Should sides be level at end of extra time, Referee will restart game with the first side to score being declared the winner.
SEMI FINALS / FINALS
The semi-finals and final of the Premier competition will take place on Sunday evening 7th April with the A and B Finals scheduled for Monday 22nd April. Details of venues etc., to be notified.
Games in the Semi-Finals and Final will be 15 minutes a side.
In the event of game(s) ending in a draw, extra time of 5 minutes a side will be played.
Should sides be level at end of extra time, Referee will restart game with the first side to score being declared the winner.
THE Mid-South Region will hold their next meeting on Monday, February 25, at 7.30pm in Ovens.
The East Region will hold their next meeting on Monday, March 4, at 7.30pm at Midleton GAA Club.
All clubs are expected to have representatives at their respective meetings.

As you are aware, 13 a-side competitions are for teams/clubs that are struggling to field 15 a-side teams and Regulations are drafted to help protect the clubs that may be struggling for numbers. It has been evident in recent years that some clubs are using more than the required 18 in a panel and may well have been able to field in 15 a side.
Please find below the regulations and procedures that are being adopted across all regions for 2019 and your co-operation is requested in this matter.
1.14. Any club wishing to field a team in 13 a-side competitions must submit a list of players which may only contain a maximum of 18 players prior to the commencement of the relevant competition.
13. 13 a-side hurling/football
Clubs playing in these 13 a-side games are advised that they must not go outside the panel of players submitted. Any club found guilty of breach of this regulation shall forfeit any game won with teams fielding any players not listed in their application. A club fine will also be considered.
As you are aware, 13 a-side competitions are for teams/clubs that are struggling to field 15 a-side teams and the above Regulations are drafted to help protect the clubs that may be struggling for numbers. Your co-operation is requested to ensure this happens.
For 2019, the above Regulations will be implemented as follows:
- Clubs are asked to submit their panel of 18 after they have played their first game in a 13 a side competition for that competition. This is to give clubs a chance to know what their panels are before submitting. These panels should be submitted by email to the Rúnaí of the relevant Region/Coiste not later than three days after the first game and before the second game is played.
- Clubs must then stay within that panel for that competition. However, they may apply to replace a member of that panel to the relevant Region that governs that competition in the event that the club wishes to replace a member of the panel on a permanent basis. This could occur, for example, where a player incurs a long-term injury or where a member of the panel is no longer interested in continuing to play. A player removed from the nominated panel will no longer be eligible to play in that competition and shall not be reinstated to that panel.
