Munster Coaching & Games are giving Benchmarking accredited clubs an exciting opportunity to participate in a series of blitz days at County Stadia.
The blitzes are for under 12 club teams and will be played on an 11 a side basis. .Each club will get the chance to play 3 games on the pitch against teams from other counties as well as a talk with a county player and a stadium tour.
This initiative is in its 8th year and has been a very enjoyable day out for the clubs that have taken part in the past.
The dates for the blitzes are as follows
July 16th, 17th &18th          :   Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney     (Football Blitzes)

July 20th                              :   Gaelic Grounds, Limerick          (Hurling Blitzes)
August 13th, 14th & 15th    :   Semple Stadium, Thurles         (Hurling Blitzes)
We would encourage all clubs to apply for participation in at least 1 venue however as it is a great opportunity for boys to play in the same stadium as their idols. The games are about participation rather than winning and give coaches the opportunity to give all squad members a day to remember for the rest of their lives.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT TIMES ARE THE BLITZES RUN?
All events take place during working hours. If clubs are signing up then they will need to ensure they have mentors available to travel in the morning/early afternoon.
HOW LONG WILL THE EVENT TAKE?
Typically clubs would want to allow 3 hours from assigned arrival time. You have 1 hour playing time on the pitch and another hour allocated to the stadium tour/intercounty player meet and greet session.
 ARE THE TEAMS GRADED?
Clubs are not graded officially but Munster will try to ensure that clubs of similar size are put in the same groups where possible. As it is a fun blitz, grading should not put you off entering.
HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE PERMITTED PER CLUB?
As games are 11 a side, clubs should not bring more than 24 players as otherwise, it will be very hard to get them all game time.  Each club will play 1 game of 11 a side at a time and 3 games overall.

West championship draws

Please find attached championship draws made at the West region meeting this week.
Many thanks to PRO Rory Doody for compiling these.
As there will be back doors in all championships, clubs are advised we will be sticking strictly to fixtures once ratified.
In competitions with only 4 teams we will have a shield final for losing semi-finalists.
Competitions with 3 teams are run on a round robin basis.
Clubs can of course decide to play these games before the start dates already advised and should talk to each other ASAP.
All correspondence regarding championship fixtures will only be accepted by email from club secretaries to me directly.
regards,
Seosamh O Ceallaigh,
Runai.

This weekend approximately 40,000 people will descend on the Cork and Kerry region as the John West Féile of hurling and camogie kicks off.

More than 256 teams, with thousands of players and coaches involved, sees 80 hurling and 48 camogie ‘home’ sides, matched with travelling teams from all over the country, make their way to Cork or Kerry for the weekend.

Players will be hosted by families from the home sides and games will commence on Friday afternoon, with the finals on Sunday, at both cup and shield level.

A busy weekend will start on Friday with 256 games alone taking place that evening.

Add in another 128 early on Saturday morning before you get to quarter and semi-final stage and it shows the level of organising it takes. Saturday afternoon will see the quarter-finals taking place with the semi-finals and finals, in cup and shield, taking place on Sunday. The competition is sponsored by John West Ireland and without their help it would be virtually impossible to run these tournaments.

This is the fourth year that John West will sponsor the underage tournament and they are delighted to announce the extension of this sponsorship till 2022. Throughout its sponsorship of the Féile, John West has focused on encouraging children to participate in Gaelic Games while emphasising the importance natural protein plays in fuelling a young athlete.

John West General Manager Peter Rooney said: “We are delighted to be here in Cork and to extend our partnership with Féile until 2022. The Féile is a unique series of events which hold a special place in our hearts.

The competitions highlight the importance of sport in children’s lives, which is something John West is truly passionate about, and it also allows us to educate on the importance of natural protein in children’s diets.”
On behalf of the organising committee, chairman John Purcell wished all taking part the best of luck and he also thanked all those who have given up their time to both organise it and to travel with the teams to Cork or Kerry.

The next meeting of the East Region will take place on Monday, May 27, at 7.30pm at Midleton GAA Club.

All clubs are requested to be represented.

Today, we are asking that all clubs operate Go Games under “Silent Sidelines”.

What is Silent Sidelines you may ask?
Rules are simple:
No coaching from anyone on the sidelines.
One designated coach may give individual instructions when play is stopped.
No encroachment onto the field of play by anyone other than players and referee.

Parents/Supporters may applaud positive play.

Simply put, “Let Them Play”. A chance for the kids to just play without adult interference. All parents and coaches have the best intentions when they instruct kids from the sideline during matches. However, sometimes all the coaching/instructing can get overwhelming for the children. Coach says one thing, Mam or Dad says a different thing. Who should they listen to? Why are they spending a lot of the match looking at an adult giving them instructions?

With this in mind, we are asking all clubs to implement “Silent Sidelines” for all Go Games matches and blitzes this weekend.

What do we expect this will do?
1. Allow the child to just play the game as they see it. Who cares if they make mistakes, they will learn from it themselves.
2. Children get a chance to concentrate on the game and find their own solutions.

3. Allows the children to communicate with each other and make team decisions themselves.

Silent Sidelines has been used at youth sport worldwide and proved successful. This is a chance for adults to see that children do not need to be constantly instructed on the field of play. It is a chance for adults to actually sit back and watch the games without worrying about what to say next. It is a chance for children to make decisions without worrying about what Coach/Parent might say. An environment free from criticism and critique.

We ask that all clubs, coaches, parents and supporters just #LetThemPlay

The next meeting of the Mid South  Region will take place on Monday , May 27th  at 7.30pm in Eire Og Club.

It is important that all clubs nominate a delegate to attend.

All upcoming fixtures can be viewed on Website.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Feile launch planned for Mallow on Wednesday, May 22, has been postponed.
