This weekend saw a special congress take place in Croke Park, over the day some big decisions took place with major changes to the Senior Inter-County Hurling Championships. More on this can be seen on www.gaacork.ie .
The changes that will see impact on underage is the change in the Inter-County Minor Hurling Championship, motion 12.
ALL IRELAND MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Motion 12 CCCC/Ard Chomhairle (Passed with 90 per cent of delegates in favour of it)
Deals with the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship. It proposes that any suitable Ulster teams participate in Leinster. The winners of Leinster and Munster qualify for the All-Ireland semi-finals, while the runners-up in both provinces and Galway compete in a round-robin All-Ireland series. The top two teams advance to the All-Ireland semi-finals.
CENTRAL COUNCIL MOTIONS TO FACILITATE THE PLAYING OF CLUB GAMES
Motion 13 CCCC/Ard Chomhairle (Passed after receiving the backing of 64% of delegates)
Proposes that Rule 6.40 (a) Tournament Games be amended to permit inter-county tournament games to be organised up to the U-16 grade only.
Motion 13A Cork – amendment to Central Council motion (Passed with the support of 77 per cent of delegates)
To allow counties to facilitate tournaments games at U-19 hurling level.
AGE GRADES
Motion 20 Minor Review Workgroup/Ard Chomhairle (Deferred until next year’s Congress)
It proposes that underage Age Grades at Club Level be altered from Under 12, 14, 16 and 18 to Under 11, 13, 15 and 17.It further proposes that the lower age level eligibility at different levels not be altered.Example: In the case of Under 18 – a player shall have celebrated his 14th birthday prior to January 1st of the Championship year. Effectively the eligibility age span in each case is reduced by one year.
PLAYING RULES
Motion 21 Standing Committee on Playing Rules/Ard Chomhairle.
(Passed with support from 82 per cent of the delegates)
This relates to the kick-out in Football. The proposal is that the ball must travel “at least 13m” and additionally travel “outside the 20 metre line” before being played by another player of the defending team.An amendment of Technical Foul/Penalty in Rule 4.29 is consequently proposed.

Well done to Ibane Gaels who ran out winners in the Premier 2A U16 County Football following their win over a hard working Macroom side.
The West Cork sides overall strength was on show from the off as they controlled this game from the start. No matter what Macroom tried to do they couldn’t breakdown the hard work from Ibane.
Macroom to their credit, put everything they could into this contest but Ibane were too strong and ran out winners 3-15 to 0-6.
Baring a draw, Macroom and Ibane Gaels will lift the Premier 2a U16 football title on Sunday evening in Kilmichael as both teams clash in this seasons decider.
Both teams have been battling hard to book their place in the final and you can see the path to the finals below and full details of the competition.

CORK MINOR HURLERS
Winners of the Munster Championship and All-Ireland Finalists
SEPTEMBER 2017 WINNERS
Winners of the Munster Championship and All-Ireland Finalists
SEPTEMBER 2017 WINNERS
The Cork Minor Hurling side, who won the Munster Title and reached the All-Ireland final, are the September 2017 winners of the Rebel Óg Monthly Awards sponsored by the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs, Cummins Sports (Award Sponsors) with RedFM and The Evening Echo (Media Partners). They follow the August winners Cork U17 Hurlers, July Winners Ballinora Juvenile GAA Club, quartet of June Winners, Féile na nGael Champions Sarsfields, Na Piarsaigh, Cuchullains and St. Kevin’s. January 2017 winners were Kiltha Óg, February Winners St. Colman’s College Fermoy, March winners Stephen O’Rourke and Niall Delany from Mallow, winners of the All-Ireland U17 Handball Championship, April Winners, Carbery Scór and the May 2017 Winners St. Francis College Rochestown, winners of the Simcox Cup.
The Cork Minor Hurling side have enjoyed a tremendous year in 2017 despite their loss to Galway in the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park.
Following two epic battles with Tipperary in the semi-final at Thurles where corner forward Evan Sheehan scored a goal from a 20 metre free to ensure a replay at Páirc Ui Rinn where another outstanding game unfolded before 8,000 spectators.
Brian Turnbull of Douglas and Evan Sheehan were outstanding on the night with their captain Sean O’Leary Hayes from Midleton commanding at all times in defence, along with his vice-captain Jack Keating, Liam O’Shea and under the management of Denis Ring along with selectors John Mortell, Fergus Ryan and coach John Dwyer and Stephen Casey (strength and conditioning).
Cork had an emphatic win over Clare in the Munster Hurling Final at Thurles with Evan Sheehan notching 2 goals and 2 points on the day to ensure Cork’s first Munster Hurling Championship victory in some years.
Victory over Dublin ensured an All-Ireland final against a powerful Galway side which ended Cork’s hopes of an All-Ireland.
The success of the Cork Minor side at winning the Munster Title and a place in the All-Ireland final combined with the All-Ireland winning U17 hurling side which included five members of the Minor team ensures that the future is bright for Cork hurling.
Rebel Og Central have confirmed details for the upcoming U16 Premier 1 County Final.
St. Finbarrs will meet Cloughduv in the decider.
