Jim Harrington was presented with the Rebel Óg Hall of Fame 2017 award. Jim has given over 50 years dedicated service to promoting gaelic games at club, divisional and county levels and in particular at under -age level.

Jim was highly involved in the restructuring of St. Finbarr’s underage sections in the early seventies which led to unprecedented success for the club culminating in All-Ireland Club championships in both codes, a feat which is still unique. He was one of the driving forces which led the ‘Barrs being named as National Club of the Year in Centenary Year 1984. In latter years he served on the Club’s Central Executive which spearheaded the development of some of the wonderful facilities that are in Togher today.

Jim is probably better known for his contribution to the development of under-age structures in Cork. He was an officer of Bord na nÓg na Cathrach for over 30 years, 25 of which he served with distinction as Cathaoirleach. He oversaw a huge growth in the Board’s activities and was always open to initiative and change for the betterment of the promotion of gaelic games among the youth in the greater city area. He also inputted majorly into the formation and establishment of the current Rebel Óg structure.
